Description
We found these large, bright coral fungi growing together with R. pallida and large rings of the redlisted Gomphus clavatus not far from the Mukhrino field station. The forest in that particular plot (a relatively steep creek bank) is dark and very, very old, with very little undergrowth and herbaceous vegetation, and is mostly Siberian pine (a five-needle pine). Such old, succession-peak patches are relatively rare in Yugra, because the majority of conifer-dominated forests are destroyed by massive fires every 200 years or so. These areas are incredibly rich in interesting and rare species, especially rare mycorrhizal fungi. They definitely deserve special protection status.
