Description
Thought initially this may be a Panthercap Amanita pantherina, but hadn't considered the Amanita regalis (see comments). Any other advice welcome!  I think now this is most likely to be Amanita excelsa var. spissa.  Image taken in Slovenian forest Autumn 2009.
